On this Friday in Gicumbi District, a campaign to strengthen the principle of gender equality and combating gender-based violence started. this campaign was organized by Gicumbi District in collaboration with the National Office in charge of monitoring the observance of the principle of Women’s Equality and ‘Men in National Development .

The end of this campaign coincided with the official launch of 16 days dedicated to the fight against gender-based violence. The Mayor of Gicumbi District, Nzabonimpa Emmanuel said that during this campaign, various activities were carried out, promising 1150 families who were already living illegally.

In addition to this, 26 other families were promised in the closing ceremony of this campaign and the activities of promising families will continue.

In addition to engaging the families, there are also various presentations on specific categories, whether for youth, local leaders, partner organizations and there is also a program to specifically recognize the engaged families.

The administration of the District praised the National Agency for Controlling the Principle of Equality and other partners for the cooperation that made the principle of equality better recognized in different categories in Gicumbi District.

The Deputy General Inspector of Equality in GMO, Rurihose Florien praised the Gicumbi District for its achievements during this campaign and promised that cooperation will continue in further striving for the principle of equality as stipulated in the Rwandan constitution. .

Senator Nyinawamwiza Laetitia, reminded that the Government of Rwanda has put in place laws, programs and solid measures to strengthen the principle of equality, which must be respected for the purpose of sustainable development for all.

He once again asked the people of Gicumbi District to oppose any kind of gender-based violence because it threatens peace and human freedom and hinders development for all.

Gicumbi is the seventh district where the Gender Equality Office has implemented this gender equality campaign, after the districts of Muhanga, Gatsibo, Nyaruguru, Ngororero, Nyagatare and Rulindo.
